Landmarks: Graceland Cemetery
This is the first in my series of business card-sized Chicago landmarks drawings. Graceland Cemetery in Chicago houses some of the city's most famous dead people. Rabbit is pictured here, near the grave of Worlds Fair architect Daniel Burnham, looking towards the Potter Palmer Monument, which is situated on a beautiful pond. Despite being right along the el train tracks -- in my neighborhood of Uptown --Graceland is one of the most peaceful places in the city. It was designed as a rural cemetery, meant to mimic feeling out in nature. Today while strolling the monuments and mausoleums, you're likely to see an urban coyote! Marker and colored pencil on recycled cardboard, 3.5 x 2 in.
